No two students walk in with the same starting point, so we do not run one fixed lesson plan. Your first session is short assessment work in light traffic, and the route from there is built around what you actually need.
First-time and teen drivers
Teens usually come with a learner's license and very little wheel time. We start on quiet residential streets in Imperial Point and Poinsettia Heights, then build toward commercial roads and downtown traffic. Parents get a short progress note after each lesson. Pick-up from Dillard, Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale High and private schools across the city.

Plenty of our students are in their thirties, forties, or older and have never held a license. Adult beginners often have no car to practice in and no relative willing to sit in the passenger seat, so the lessons themselves carry the whole skill build. We pace these packages differently - more repetition on control and parking before anything else.

If you failed the skills test, stopped driving after a crash, or have avoided highways for years, you do not need a beginner course. You need targeted work on the specific thing that makes you tense. Passing the skills test is a milestone, not the goal. The goal is driving safely on the roads you will use every week, which in this city means a specific set of conditions that inland students never deal with.
City streets and downtown traffic
Broward Boulevard, Sunrise Boulevard, Oakland Park Boulevard, Davie Boulevard, Commercial Boulevard, Andrews Avenue, State Road 7, Federal Highway, Las Olas Boulevard, and Southeast 17th Street each teach something different. Multilane intersections, dedicated turn lanes, buses pulling back into traffic, cars cutting out of shopping plazas, cyclists beside you, and pedestrians near the beach and Las Olas all demand that you look well past the bumper in front of you. Downtown and Tarpon River also have speed cushions and narrowed lanes that new drivers should recognize before they hit one at thirty-five.
Drawbridges and coastal traffic
The East Las Olas Boulevard Bridge and the Andrews Avenue Drawbridge can stop traffic for several minutes while a boat passes, and the queue builds fast on the approach streets. Students learn to read the situation early, slow down well before stopped traffic, keep intersections and driveways clear, and resist the urge to jump lanes the moment the span comes back down. We add bridge practice once lane position and smooth stopping are solid. Traffic around Port Everglades, the marinas, and the hotel district works the same way.
Highway driving on I-95 and I-595
Highway sessions cover acceleration lanes, matching traffic speed, finding a gap, reading overhead signs early, exit planning, and spacing around trucks where the driver cannot see you. I-95 and I-595 have closely spaced exits and heavy lane-changing near the interchanges, so students learn that missing an exit is always safer than cutting across three lanes for it. Florida's Turnpike and US 1 are used for the same work at a lower intensity. Nervous students can book highway practice as its own session.
Heavy rain, flooding, and king tides
Fort Lauderdale sits low and flat, and a street that was dry at the start of a lesson can hold water an hour later during a storm or a king tide. Lessons cover reducing speed, increasing following distance, correct headlight use, and avoiding sudden inputs when traction and visibility drop. Six inches of moving water is enough to make a driver lose control. The rule we teach is simple - never judge depth by the car in front of you, and turn around. A full package should not have to come out of one paycheck. Split any 6-hour or 10-hour package into equal payments and start driving after the first one. No interest, no hidden fees - the price you are quoted is the price you pay.

Course requirements changed on August 1, 2025, and a lot of families are still working from old information. Neither course puts you behind the wheel - they teach law and risk awareness, and the actual driving still has to be learned somewhere.
DETS course
First-time applicants under 18 who have never held a license anywhere generally must complete the six-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety course, known as DETS. A minor who finished only the four-hour TLSAE course on or after that date usually still needs DETS unless an approved school-based or DELAP exception applies.
4-hour TLSAE course
First-time applicants 18 and older who cannot present a license from another state or country generally need the four-hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course before applying.
50 hours and the learner period
Teen learners must hold the learner's license for 12 months or until they turn 18, whichever comes first, and a parent, guardian, or responsible adult over 21 must certify 50 hours of driving experience including 10 at night. Driving is daylight-only for the first three months, then allowed until 10 p.m., always with a licensed driver 21 or older in the car.
Class E road test preparation in Fort Lauderdale
Test prep should make you a better driver, not teach you a rumored route. A preparation session reviews the maneuvers examiners score - controls, observation, complete stops, right-of-way, turns, backing, parking, speed control, and safe entry into traffic - and then fixes the two or three habits costing you points.
If you plan to test in your own vehicle, bring valid registration and proof of insurance, and expect a basic safety check before the examination. Students without a suitable car can use one of ours, which is already registered, insured, and inspected.

Broward County has driver license offices in Lauderdale Lakes, Sunrise, Margate, Pembroke Pines, and Pompano Beach. The Fort Lauderdale location on North Federal Highway handles motor vehicle services only, not driver licensing.
