Before the test: the TLSAE course
First-time drivers in Florida must complete the Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course before taking the permit test. It is a short course you can take online.
What is on the Florida permit test
The knowledge exam currently has 50 multiple-choice questions covering road rules and road signs. You need to answer at least 40 correctly, an 80 percent score, to pass.

- Safe and lawful driving practices
How to prepare
Study the official Florida Driver License Handbook, take practice tests until you score in the 90s consistently, and focus on signs, which trip up a lot of people. Get a good night of sleep and bring the required documents.
